The 1975 are hard at work in the studio.

Frontman Matty Healy has admitted he’s not getting much shut-eye at the moment because he’s splitting his time between making the group’s new material – which will follow 2022’s Being Funny in a Foreign Language – and playing the 2025 dystopian extraction shooter game Arc Raiders.

In a subreddit, he spilled: “Hellooo I have been living in the studio and not sleeping much (happens I think normally one month a year) and after work playing Arc Raiders almost religiously. I’ve never had a game that’s part of my life like an album or something it has become something I take quite seriously. Would be cool to play with you guys – any suggestions of how to do it without doxing my gamer tag and just blowing my shit up? Loveeeee m x (sic)”

Towards the end of 2025, Matty said his life will be hectic over the next two years, telling his Reddit followers: “Feeling very unc and very lucky to be in 1975 atm. Next two years looks mental (sic)”

Matty’s TV star mother, Denise Welch, previously revealed she had heard the new material her son’s band has been working on during their downtime from the road.

She was quoted by the Daily Star as saying at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards in October: “It’s fabulous. It’s very different, but it’s got the DNA of the 1975, I think you’ll love it.”

Matty also confirmed the existence of two albums, one of which is called Dogs.

He told students during a Q+A session at Gateshead College in December: “We made two. It might be one, it might be two… but yeah, we’ve made two albums”.

The Love Me group’s manager, Dirty Hit label boss Jamie Oborne, told The Money Trench podcast: “They’re making a record at the moment. I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one.

“I think they’ve earned the right to take their time.

“The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”

Oborne teased that the LP is already sounding “pretty extraordinary”.

In 2023, Matty revealed the band would embark on an “indefinite hiatus” from live shows after completing their mammoth Still… At Their Very Best tour in March 2024.

Performing at the Golden 1 Center, in Sacramento, California, he told the crowd: “It’s wonderful you’re all here.

“After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much.”
