Matty Healy has revealed The 1975 are working on two new albums.

The 36-year-old singer has given an update on his band’s plans for their first records since 2022’s Being Funny In A Foreign Language.

Speaking to students at Gateshead College on Tuesday (03.12.25) during a lesson and Q+A, Matty was asked about the significance of the word “DOGS”, which appeared on screen at the end of their headline Glastonbury performance over the summer.

In a video shared on TikTok, he can be heard telling the fan: “We made two – it might be one, it might be two… but yeah, we’ve made two albums”

Elsewhere during the session with students, it was confirmed Matty will be playing an intimate gig for Newcastle-based charity Sunday For Sammy, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

He will join the lineup at the city’s Utilita Arena on February 16, while local lad Sam Fender has also agreed to play.

The event was first launched in 2000 as a “biennial entertainment extravaganza” in honour of late Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Sammy Johnson, who died in 1998, with all proceeds supporting young performing artists across the North East of the UK.

Matty teased a set made up of The 1975 songs and some “Geordie folk songs”.

When it comes to new material, the group’s manager Jamie Oliver previously hinted at something special when he confirmed they were “making a record at the moment”.

He told The Money Trench podcast back in May: “It’s already a pretty extraordinary record.”

He noted that was a “constant discourse about it” between him and the band – made up of Matty, guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald and drummer George Daniel – who aren’t going to be rushing themselves.

He added: “I think they’ve earned the right to take their time. The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”

Last month, Matty revealed he had taken the bold step of pulling one of The 1975’s songs from streaming services because he decided their 2022 album would be better without it.

He wrote on Reddit: “Hey! Human Too was removed from the album so the album is more how I want it to be.

“Previous physical release obviously remain the same.”
