Mckenna Grace joins Ice Nine Kills for ‘Scream 7’ anthem

Mckenna Grace joins Ice Nine Kills for ‘Scream 7’ anthem

Ice Nine Kills have joined forces with Scream 7 star Mckenna Grace for a track from the new film – watch ‘Twisting The Knife’ below.

Grace, who is known for The Handmaid’s Tale and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is set to star in the latest entry in the long-running slasher series, which is released in cinemas next week (February 27).

Scream 7 sees Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox reprise their roles in the franchise as Campbell’s Sidney Prescott sees her daughter Tatum (Isabel May) targeted by the serial killer Ghostface.

Now, Grace has joined forces with Boston horror-themed metalcore band Ice Nine Kills, who have been closely associated with the Terrifier films, for the single ‘Twisting The Knife’, a track that will feature on the film’s soundtrack. Check out the video, which also features Ghostface and Arquette, here:

Ice Nine Kills singer Spencer Charnas has said: “’Twisting The Knife’ is our tribute to Wes Craven and the Scream franchise, which means so much to us. Scream is baked into the DNA of who I am and of Ice Nine Kills: my love of horror, comedy, and the collision between the two.

“I was already obsessed with Halloween and Friday The 13th, but Scream was the first I saw in theatres. Hearing the killer talk about horror movies, in that distinctively pop-culture savvy Kevin Williamson way, blew my mind.”

Grace, who also has her own singing career, has added: “Making this song was such a special experience for me: I am such a big INK fan and it was such an amazing opportunity to be able to play with a different style of music.

“I am so inspired by Amy Lee’s vocals and we all wanted to channel Scream and Sydney’s story as best as we could. Spencer and the guys were so much fun to collaborate with and I’m so thankful to Kevin Williamson.”

The production of Scream 7 has been mired in controversy, after previous star Melissa Barrera was fired after social media posts in support of Palestine. Some fans vowed to boycott the franchise after the decision and co-star Jenna Ortega later said she would not be returning due to scheduling conflicts.

Campbell, who had missed the previous film due to pay disputes, was offered the lead role in Scream 7 after Barrera’s firing and she agreed to return.

In a four-star review of 2023’s Scream VI, NME wrote: “Scream VI isn’t perfect: the constant meta references (past killers, the ‘rules’ of the franchise) felt inventive in last year’s reboot, but here grow tiresome. There’s also a confusing subplot around Sam’s suppressed desire to emulate her dad (Billy Loomis, the original Ghostface), who appears in hallucinations telling her to murder people.

“Throw in the usual exposition sessions, which keep the viewer up to date on the plot but make it feel like a Gen Z Poirot, and it could all start to get on your nerves. Luckily, such is the sheer, bloody joy of the thing that you’ll be too preoccupied to notice. Maybe more horror baddies should move to New York?”
