Mick Jagger “speaks for the nation” with viral reaction to England conceding in World Cup semi-final

Mick Jagger‘s reaction to England’s loss in the World Cup semi-final has gone viral across the Internet.

The Rolling Stones frontman attended the game between England and Argentina yesterday (July 15). Were England to have succeeded, it would have been their first time playing in a World Cup final since 1966.

England gained an early lead thanks to Anthony Gordon’s goal 55 minutes in – but towards the end of the game, Enzo Fernández equalised. Lautaro Martínez clinched the winner to defeat the Three Lions 2-1.

Now, footage has been captured of Jagger reacting to Fernández’s goal – and his disappointed head shake has resonated with fans across the globe. One fan said the clip had “big meme potential”, while another person claimed: “Mick Jagger speaks for the nation”.

Take a look at more social media reactions to Jagger’s crestfallen face below:

England fans have long jokingly suggested that Mick Jagger is “cursed”, as the musician has been present at several devastating losses in football tournaments.

Jagger was in attendance at England’s loss to Croatia in the 2018 semi-final, and again in 2014 when Brazil endured a 7-1 hammering to Germany. He also witnessed the 2010 World Cup, when England were defeated 4-1 by Germany. However, he broke the curse this year watching England beat Norway 2-1.

The musician previously laughed off claims of a curse when addressing Brazil’s brutal 2014 defeat. In a statement issued to NME, he said: “OK, I take responsibility for the first German goal… but not the other 6!”

Meanwhile, Jagger has told NME he is already writing the Rolling Stones’ new album.

“Yeah, it could be a trio [of records],” he said, adding: “I’ve already started writing songs anyway. They could be for other people though. When you write a song, you sometimes decide ‘that’s not for me, but it could be for the Chili Peppers’ or whatever.

“I’ve got a lot of stuff, and not all of it’s suitable for The Rolling Stones,” he continued to say. “It shouldn’t stop me writing them, you know. If you get an idea, just write it.”

Elsewhere, System Of A Down’s Daron Malakian has blamed Oasis for England’s World Cup loss, while Liam Gallagher has weighed in on England’s World Cup result.
