Miley Cyrus wants her social media content to act as an ‘escape’ for fans

Miley Cyrus wants her social media content to provide an “escape” for fans.

The Flowers hitmaker prefers to keep her personal social media presence separate from her philanthropic work with her non-profit organisation, The Happy Hippie Foundation, which focuses on youth homelessness.

Speaking to actress Daryl Hannah for Wonderland Magazine, Miley was asked whether she uses her platform to discuss the foundation and its work.

“I do, but I try to balance it responsibly,” she replied. “I also believe I can offer people an escape from the heaviness of everyday life, and I don’t want to lose that.”

The Climb singer went on to note that she wants her personal platform to remain a space for creativity.

“So I try to keep my missions under the umbrella of the Foundation while allowing my personal platform to remain a place where people can come together through music, humour, fashion, and creativity,” she stated. “There are so many places asking people to choose sides. I hope my music can remind people what we have in common.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Miley, 33, admitted that earlier in her career she felt a “huge amount of pressure” to “save the world”.

“I used to put a huge amount of pressure on myself to use my platform to ‘save’ the world, and over time, I realised that that is not actually how change happens,” she explained. “Change happens when everybody does their part. I am dedicated to keeping my side of the street clean and using the stage I stand on to make compassion look inspiring, because motivation is contagious.”

“Right now there’s so much judgment that I think people are scared of getting involved unless they know exactly the right thing to say or do,” the former Disney star continued. “But I don’t really believe there’s one right way. Do what is in your power.”

Miley launched The Happy Hippie Foundation in May 2015, with the organisation supporting homeless youth, LGBTQ+ youth and other vulnerable communities.
