Missy Elliott has urged record label executives to put her hit cover of Car Wash on streaming services.
The hip-hop star and Christina Aguilera released their version of the 1976 Rose Royce hit as a single for the soundtrack of the 2004 animated movie, Shark Tale.
Missy and Christina’s collaboration proved to be a success, with the cover becoming a Top Ten hit in several countries at the time.
But while responding to a fan via X this week, the Lose Control hitmaker confirmed Car Wash wasn’t available to stream.
Missy tagged Universal Music Group and Geffen Records in the message.
“The fans tagged me wanting to know why the song Car Wash on #Sharktale soundtrack not on some streaming sites… Can you please help out because many of them have been asking as you can see and miss it,” she wrote.
Representatives for the record labels have not yet publicly responded to Missy’s request.
The rapper dropped her most recent studio album, The Cookbook, in 2005, and the EP, Iconology, in 2019.
However, in a recent interview for the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Missy revealed she has been working on new music.
“I have something in the works,” the 54-year-old shared. “It’s just different. It’s me being experimental again… I got some stuff coming. Some fire.”
