Mitski reveals why she won’t be doing a “proper tour”

Mitski has shed light on her choice not go embark on a “proper tour” in support of her latest album, ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’.

Earlier this year, the musician announced a 2026 tour of “global performances”, opting to do a series of multi-night residencies rather than extensive tour, as she’d done previously.

In a recent video shared to X, the musician said that at the moment, she felt pulled more towards writing, rather than live performances. “I can’t do it at the same time,” she explained. “Some artists maybe can. I’m not someone who can do it all.”

“Right now,” she continued, “I feel a stronger pull towards writing more, and in order to do that, I have to cut back on performing.”

She added that doing fewer shows and focusing on residencies doesn’t mean she won’t do a “proper” tour in the future. “It just means that at this point in my life, I feel more excited about writing a lot.”

“I feel really, really excited about potentially getting to show you what comes of this writing period,” she concluded. “I can’t assure you of anything. But I feel excited about what comes of this. And I hope you are too.”

Mitski’s global performances kicked off after the LP was released in February, and launched with a six-night residency at The Shed in New York City.

Other stops include shows in Istanbul, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, and at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and Mitski will head down under for a four-night stay at the Sydney Opera House, before wrapping up the shows in Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore in July.

Mitski’s last album was 2023’s ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We – which was described as “masterful” by NME in a four-star review. The singer has also shared a cover of Pete Townshend’s ‘Let My Love Open the Door’ since then. That was recorded as part of the soundtrack for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

She has also released some standalone singles too, including a collaboration with Tamino on ‘Sanctuary’, and a guest feature on the title track for Florence + The Machine’s latest album, ‘Everybody Scream’.
