Moby announces new album ‘Future Quiet’ with new version of ‘Stranger Things’ hit ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’ with Gabriels’ Jacob Lusk

Moby has shared details of new album ‘Future Quiet’, and dropped a reimagined version of the Stranger Things viral song ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’ alongside Gabriels‘ Jacob Lusk.

The record will mark the 23rd studio album from the iconic record producer and artist, and is set to arrive on February 20 via BMG. Pre-order it here.

Spanning across 11 songs, the record marks a new chapter for Moby, and is set to incorporate modern piano minimalism, ambient soundscapes, and a variety of guest collaborations.

Today (Friday January 16), the electronic music legend has dropped the first teaser of the record – a reimagined version of his track ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’. The song originally appeared on Moby’s 1995 album ‘Everything Is Wrong’ and featured vocals from Mimi Goese. It recently found a new lease of life when it featured on the first and fourth season of hit Netflix series Stranger Things.

Following the new wave of popularity around the single – now becoming Moby’s most streamed song and going viral on TikTok – the artist has today dropped an orchestral reworking of it as the lead single featuring Gabriels’ Jacob Lusk on vocals.

“Like anyone who’s heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice,” Moby shared. “After hearing him sing on the radio, I spent weeks tracking him down and begging him to work with me. And, lucky me, he agreed.”

He continued: “The results speak for themselves, as his vocals on ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’ are, I say with something approaching objectivity, transcendent.”

As for the album as a whole, Moby reaffirmed that while the songs will centre around minimalism and ambience, that isn’t to say that it will be a “quiet” release.

“‘Future Quiet’ is, not surprisingly, quiet,” Moby explained. “To be clear; I love bombast. I
love excess and volume. But as the world gets louder and crazier I find myself needing the refuge of quiet, both as a listener and as a musician.”

“For me, and hopefully for others,’ Future Quiet’ is a refuge. The world, self-evidently, is more demanding than it’s ever been. The world screams at us, our screens scream at us, other people scream at us, and to retreat from the screaming we need safety and refuge,” he added. “That for me is the goal of ‘Future Quiet’. Writing and recording it was a refuge for me, and I hope that listening to it is a refuge for you.”

The new album comes following Moby announcing his biggest tour in over a decade, which includes a huge headline show at Brighton Beach this summer.

That gig marks Moby’s long-awaited return to Brighton, having not performed in the city for over 25 years, and is Moby’s only scheduled UK date of 2026, at the time of writing. Visit here for tickets.

He last performed on these shores when he headlined London’s O2 in autumn 2024. Other live dates in 2026 include stops at Coachella in California, Rock Werchter in Belgium and Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, and other performances in the US and Europe.

Back in 2023, Moby spoke to NME as part of the Does Rock ‘N’ Roll Kill Braincells?! series, and opened up about how he nearly formed a supergroup with Pantera and Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee.

“The Sober Fucks,” he correctly answered. “I’ve been sober for a while now, but this was a late-night, alcohol-fuelled idea between Pantera’s guitarist Dimebag Darrell, drummer Vinnie Paul, Tommy Lee and I.“I regret not starting this chaotic metal band with them, which would have sounded like a cross between Pantera and my old punk group Flipper.”
