Morrissey cancels another show – this time in Atlanta due to “artist illness”

Morrissey has cancelled his show in Atlanta tonight due to “artist illness”.

The former Smiths frontman has called off a long list of shows in recent months and years, and yesterday (January 16), the latest gig to fall victim was his show at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday night (January 17).

The venue shared the news on social media, writing: “Due to artist illness, the Morrissey show on January 17, 2026, at 8 PM has been canceled. All ticket purchases will be refunded automatically at the point of purchase. Please allow 7-10 business days for refunds to take place.”

It comes just weeks after Morrissey cancelled a pair of California shows due to an “adverse reaction to a prescription medication”.

The singer has cancelled or postponed more than 200 solo shows since 2012, including in November, when he quietly called off a South American tour, citing “extreme exhaustion”, just days after two Mexican concerts were cancelled for the same reason. In October, Morrissey scrapped two gigs in Turkey for December, with fans speculating that this was because of his apparent support of Israel.

In the summer, he didn’t perform in Stockholm because he and the band were “travel-weary beyond belief” and receiving “zero music industry support”. This followed him pushing back some performances thanks to “a severe sinusitis attack”.

One gig that did go ahead was his show in San Antonio on January 10, where he played The Smiths’ ‘Paint A Vulgar Picture’ for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Earlier this month, Morrissey announced ‘Make-Up Is A Lie’, his first new album in six years, will be released on March 5 via Sire/Warner Records (pre-order/pre-save here). He also shared the record’s lead single and title track, which you can check out above.

“The wait has sometimes felt like a tragedy, but the release today of ‘Make-Up Is A Lie’ is like a reunion of lovers,” Morrissey told fans. “And after several plays it seems to have existed always. We can now place our faith in what is visible.”

The tracklist for the album was revealed on Christmas Day, after Morrissey strongly hinted that he had signed with Sire Records. Initially, some suspected the album in question would be the long-delayed ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’, but that project remains in limbo.

His European shows begin in Denmark on February 13, and the tour also includes a headline date at The O2, which is his only scheduled UK gig of the year. Find any remaining tickets to the UK show here, and to international shows here.

Elsewhere, Morrissey has been dropped from A$AP Rocky’s new album ‘Don’t Be Dumb’.
