Former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee is recovering after being hospitalised for a “very serious” case of sepsis.
Taking to Facebook on Thursday, the Swedish musician posted a photo of himself sitting with his legs resting on a chair while holding a pair of crutches.
In the accompanying caption, Mikkey – real name Micael Delaoglou – revealed that he was taken to the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden in mid-December after he began experiencing issues with one ankle.
“This holiday season, I have been hospitalized with a very serious blood infection (Sepsis). I was admitted for three weeks but now I am home fighting this b**tard bacteria,” he wrote, noting he received “fantastic care” from his medical team. “So thanks a million to all the Doctors and Nurses that have been giving me the most excellent care.”
Mikkey is now recovering at home, though faces months of rehabilitation.
Despite the health crisis, the rocker plans to rejoin heavy metal band Scorpions for a residency in Las Vegas that is scheduled to begin on 27 February.
“We have a tremendous 2025 to look forward to, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and many exciting giggs (sic) around the world,” the 61-year-old added. “So, the Stinger is out and I can’t wait to see you all out there on the road and rock the hell out of you! I wish everybody a fantastic 2025 with good health and lots of Rock n’ Roll!”
Mikkey joined Scorpions in 2016 after Motörhead disbanded following frontman Lemmy Kilmister’s death the previous year.
