MUNA say “we weren’t told who any of the guests were gonna be” after appearing on ‘Kimmel’ with Gal Gadot: “Free Palestine”

MUNA have pointedly shared a plea for a “free Palestine” after unwittingly featuring on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live alongside Gal Gadot, one of Hollywood’s most vocal pro-Israel voices.

On the episode, which was recorded earlier this week but aired on Thursday (September 10), the Los Angeles trio performed ‘Dancing on the Wall’, while Gadot appeared as a guest to promote the new Prime Video action movie, The Runner.

Gadot has continued to court controversy concerning her ardent support of Israel. She served as part of the Israeli Defence Force in the ‘00s and has consistently defended its actions, which have been described by both the United Nations and Amnesty International as genocidal.

In 2023, she also joined several celebrities in signing an open letter voicing their support for Israel, and previously said her “conscience was clean” because she “felt like I had to advocate for the hostages“.

In a recent social media post, MUNA member Naomi McPherson made it clear that they do not share Gadot’s views.

“We’re on kimmel tonight! thank you to all the staff of the show who were so great to us… they were legends who really went the extra mile,” McPherson wrote on their Instagram Stories.

“This was taped a few days ago & we weren’t told who any of the guests were gonna be. So gotta also just take this moment also to say a nice big huge free palestine.”

The band previously joined the likes of Lorde and IDLES in the ‘No Music For Genocide’ Israel streaming boycott, which encouraged artists and rights-holders to pull their music from streaming platforms in Israel.

In 2024, MUNA‘s Katie Gavin shared her thoughts on the then-upcoming US election and presidential candidate Kamala Harris, saying she would be voting for Harris but would not “endorse somebody who is funding a genocide.”

In her statement, Gavin alluded to the Biden-Harris administration’s funding of Israel while committing genocide in Gaza – something that has also been brought up by several musicians in the past.

Gadot, meanwhile, said last year that “pressure” to “speak out” against Israel led to Snow White flopping. The film had a disastrous opening in cinemas, making just $42.2million in the US, which was well below expectations given the film’s estimated $240–270million budget. It also went on to earn one of the lowest scores ever seen on IMDb (Internet Movie Database).

The backlash surrounding the film also saw Gadot criticised for not presenting the Best Documentary Oscar to a Palestinian filmmaker at the 2025 Oscars, as well as having her Walk of Fame ceremony disrupted by both pro-Israel and pro-Palestine protestors.

As for MUNA, NME gave their recent record ‘Dancing On The Wall’ a three-and-a-half star review, describing it as seeing the LA trio lock in on “euphoric pop bangers with a shadowy side”.

“While ‘Dancing On The Wall’ does tread newer ground lyrically on songs like ‘Big Stick’, and at times dabbles with heavier, rock-influenced sounds, it also doesn’t divert too far away from the hyper-saturated synthpop sound the band have nailed since day one,” it read. “And in MUNA’s world, precise, irresistible consistency can be just as compelling as constant reinvention.”
