Noah Kahan slams White House for using song American Cars on social media post

Noah Kahan slams White House for using song American Cars on social media post

Noah Kahan has slammed U.S. President Donald Trump and White House officials for using one of his songs as the soundtrack for a social media post.

On Monday, a government representative posted a slideshow of images on Instagram and TikTok showing the American leader visiting General Motors in Michigan, Detroit.

Kahan’s song, American Cars, from his fourth studio album The Great Divide, was selected to accompany the imagery.

“Made in America is BACK,” a White House spokesperson wrote in the caption. “For decades, globalists sold out Michigan autoworkers, shipping jobs overseas and gutting Detroit’s factories. Every president before Trump promised to stop it. None did. Now Michigan has a President who fights for workers and puts America FIRST.”

But on Tuesday, Kahan expressed his disapproval in the comments section.

“Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration,” the 29-year-old declared.

Representatives for Trump and the White House have not yet publicly responded to Kahan.

However, the music has since been removed from the Instagram post. It remains on the TikTok version.

Previously, artists including Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo have criticised Trump and his administration for using their music in promos.

And last weekend, Katy Perry condemned the White House for using her song Firework in video footage of American military strikes on Iran.

In a social media post on Saturday, the pop star responded, “I am deeply appalled and angry to see Firework used on the @WhiteHouse TikTok account as a backing track for video footage of military strikes. I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it.”

“I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments,” she continued. “To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponised to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for. My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.”
