Oasis ‘invite Andy Burnham’ to Don’t Look Back in Anger documentary premiere

Oasis ‘invite Andy Burnham’ to Don’t Look Back in Anger documentary premiere

Oasis are said to have invited UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to the premiere of the Don’t Look Back in Anger documentary next month.

The decision means that Burnham, who has described the Roll With It rockers as one of his favourite bands, is set to be part of the star-studded event for the Disney+ film – which chronicles the Britpop icons on their reunion tour last year – in London’s Leicester Square on September 7.

A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Burnham is a big fan of Oasis and attending the premiere would be the icing on the cake of his year.

“He loved it when Noel and Liam (Gallagher) reunited and took over Manchester for the record-breaking Live ’25 gigs last year.

“Burnham has been speaking about his Britpop music taste on TikTok and this would be the perfect opportunity for social media content.”

In a recent TikTok video, the Labour leader ranked Oasis – who had split back in 2009 – at number one when asked to “blind-list” his favourite bands.

Burnham also spoke of his admiration for the Gallagher brothers when the Wonderwall artists played five nights at Heaton Park in their home city of Manchester last year.

The 56-year-old politician – who served as Mayor of Greater Manchester before becoming Prime Minister last month – said of the concerts: “This is the day that Manchester has been waiting for. I’ve had a bit of contact with Noel in recent times; they’re both brilliant, actually.

“Noel helped us out when we were raising funds for homelessness as part of (former Manchester City captain) Vincent Kompany’s testimonial year.

“And Liam helped us out last year – he did the announcements on our trams to support a new music conference we have got in the city, Beyond The Music.

“I am just so pleased to see them back together. I never got to see them back in the day.

“I have seen them both individually but never seen them together.”

It was revealed earlier this year that Noel and Liam had given their first joint interview in 25 years for the documentary, which has been written by Steven Knight.

The Peaky Blinders creator said: “I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band, but just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever.

“It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries and in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope.”
