Oasis triumphant on Cardiff return

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff bore witness last night to a historic event in British music: the long-awaited reunion of Oasis. Sixteen years after their last performance, Liam and Noel Gallagher graced the stage, kicking off their highly anticipated world tour with an electrifying setlist that spanned their formidable career, much to the delight of a fervent, global fanbase.

The air was thick with anticipation as the stadium lights dimmed, giving way to the raw energy of “F***in’ in the Bushes.” From that moment, it was clear Oasis was back. The set immediately delved into rarities, with the crowd erupting for “Hello” and “Acquiesce,” neither of which had been played live in over two decades. The inclusion of these deeper cuts alongside anthems like “Morning Glory” and “Cigarettes & Alcohol” underscored the band’s commitment to a comprehensive retrospective of their sound.

Liam Gallagher’s vocals, as potent as ever, commanded the stage, particularly on tracks like “Fade Away” and “Whatever,” the latter marking his first time singing the track with the band since 1996. Noel Gallagher’s distinctive guitar work and harmonies were equally precise, driving the sound through hits like “Supersonic” and “Roll With It.” The set continued to surprise, pulling out “Talk Tonight” and “Little by Little” from lengthy absences, creating moments of shared nostalgia for the dedicated faithful.

A poignant moment arrived with “Live Forever,” dedicated to footballer Diogo Jota, who passed away the day prior. The emotional weight of the song resonated deeply, leading into the explosive finale of the main set with “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star.”

The roar for an encore was deafening, and Oasis delivered. After band introductions, “The Masterplan” unfolded, followed by a monumental rendition of “Don’t Look Back in Anger”—its first full-band performance since 2007, an immediate fan favorite. The night concluded with the timeless singalongs of “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova,” leaving no doubt that Oasis’s return is a significant chapter in rock history, proving their enduring legacy and capacity to captivate.
