OG Maco died last night (December 26) at the age of 32, TMZ reports.
The rapper had been in hospital for several weeks due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His family confirmed on December 16 that he was in a “critical but stable condition” after allegedly attempting suicide.
Sources have told TMZ that Maco, real name Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was in a coma and his condition then took a turn for the worse. Doctors had reportedly also been struggling to get a proper brain scan in order to flush out the toxins in the rapper’s system. He passed away in a Los Angeles hospital surrounded by his family.
Maco’s family then confirmed the news in a statement. “With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco. His life was a testament to resilience, creativity and boundless love. Through his music, passion and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impact.
