Olivia Rodrigo: ‘My new album was inspired by Sex and the City’

Olivia Rodrigo has revealed her new album was inspired by a relationship in Sex and the City.

The 23-year-old singer discussed the upcoming release of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love as she appeared on The Tonight Show on Thursday.

Speaking to host Jimmy Fallon, Olivia explained how the romance between Sex and the City characters Miranda Hobbes and Steve Brady had influenced her song writing.

“There’s actually multiple songs that are inspired by Miranda and Steve. It’s my favourite show,” she shared.

“I think I’ve watched every single episode maybe three times. When Miranda and Steve are getting back together she’s crying and she’s like, ‘Steve, any time something funny happens I just want to tell you.’ And I remember watching that and being like, ‘Oh my God, I have to write a song about this,'” Olivia continued.

The star went on to explain that the album’s first single, titled drop dead, was about a “really awesome first date”.

“The journey definitely ebbs and flows and goes in lots of different places from here, but this is the first chapter,” Olivia, who is back on the dating scene following her split from actor Louis Partridge, added about the track.

Elsewhere in the interview, the drivers license singer touched upon her upcoming tour, which was announced earlier this week.

Olivia revealed she can’t wait to get back on stage and entertain her fans.

“I’ve been working so hard on it. I’m so stoked to play these songs live,” she smiled.
