Olivia Rodrigo reveals surprising childhood obsession with British high street staple Boots

International pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo has revealed a surprising childhood obsession with the British health and beauty retailer Boots, confessing she once viewed the high street chemist as the ultimate destination for luxury fashion and glamour. Speaking to presenters Tyler West and Chloe Burrows on the KISS Breakfast radio program, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter explained that her early perception of the United Kingdom was heavily shaped by the internet culture of the 2010s.

The source of her childhood fascination stems from the highly popular online videos of pioneering British lifestyle YouTuber Zoella, whose extensive shopping features regularly highlighted products from the affordable retail chain. “I remember watching those videos when I was younger and she would do a Boots haul,” Rodrigo shared during her radio appearance. “I’d be like, ‘Boots must be the most expensive, incredible store in the world, I have to go to Boots, make the pilgrimage to Boots.'”

Having now spent significant periods working and traveling across the United Kingdom throughout her multi-platinum music career, the California-born artist admitted she can appreciate the humor in her initial misconceptions regarding the mainstream pharmacy. “Now I’ve been here for a while I think that’s kind of funny,” Rodrigo joked. However, she maintained that her genuine affection for the brand has not waned over time. “I love Boots, by the way, but when I was younger I was like this is where it all happens. All the cool girls go to Boots and I need to get into there.”

The lighthearted interview comes amidst a hectic promotional campaign for Rodrigo in London, where she is currently on track to secure a historic number-one album and single double on the UK charts with her newly released studio project, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The chart-topping star’s viral anecdotes regarding her long-standing love for British culture continue to charm regional audiences ahead of her highly anticipated summer concert dates.
