Olivia Rodrigo sat on swing for ‘two hours’ for album cover photoshoot

Olivia Rodrigo sat on swing for ‘two hours’ for album cover photoshoot

Olivia Rodrigo has recalled how it took “two hours” to shoot the cover for her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

For the cover art for her highly anticipated third studio album, the Good 4 U singer is seen posing in a pink dress while flying through the air on a swing.

Asked about the striking imagery during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night, Olivia conceded that the process was a “little bit scary”.

“I remember being a little frightened, my hands hurt really bad from holding onto the chain,” she recounted. “I was on the swing for like two hours. There’s like a pillow under my butt, you can’t see it, it was super painful, but yeah, it turned into that (so I’m proud of it).”

Host Jimmy then asked Olivia why she opted for such a long album title after going for short titles for her previous albums Sour and Guts.

“I knew it wanted to break out of the four-letter thing and it was just something that my producer Dan (Nigro) said to me,” the 23-year-old explained. “We were having a conversation and about stuff in my life and he said, ‘You seem pretty down for a girl so in love.’ And when he said it, we were both like, ‘That’s it. That’s the title we’ve been searching for… for so long.'”

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love includes the track What’s Wrong with Me, featuring The Cure’s Robert Smith.

As for her admiration of the punk artist, Olivia noted that her dad Chris Rodrigo is a “diehard superfan” of The Cure and has seen the band 30 times.

“He got to talk to Robert (at a recent show), ’cause we’re kinda friends now, and the tears started welling up in his eyes. His screensaver on his phone is a picture of him and Robert. It’s so sweet,” she smiled.

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love drops on Friday.
