Opus Kink announce debut album ‘The Sweet Goodbye’ with sultry single ‘Come Over, Do Me Wrong’

Opus Kink have announced their debut album ‘The Sweet Goodbye’ with the jazz-infused lead single ‘Come Over, Do Me Wrong’ and new UK and European tour dates.

Following on from the Brighton post-punk band two previous EPs –2022’s ‘’Til The Stream Runs Dry’ and 2023’s ‘My Eyes, Brother!’ – their debut LP will arrive on July 31 via So Recordings and is available to pre-order here.

Promising to capture their signature blend of jazz, country, indie and punk, ‘The Sweet Goodbye’ was produced and mixed by Craig Silvey (Florence & The Machine, Sam Fender) and engineered by Dani Spragg (Wunderhorse, English Teacher). Today (Tuesday March 31), the band shared the first preview of the record with the charismatic lead single ‘Come Over, Do Me Wrong’.

Easing in with a captivating, sultry horn melody, the track gradually builds alongside the swooning vocals of frontman Angus Rogers.

“I try, like any good man/ To distinguish my boredom from pain/ Oh happy day, reasons for living / I have accepted the joke as it came,” he sings, building towards the anthemic, slightly melancholic chorus. “Sideways, sweet love/ The night so long/ Dead face, cold glove/ Come over, do me wrong.”

Speaking about the single, Rogers said: “Half of any good thing is its proximity to its end; half of any good thing is the reason it cannot be yours. ‘Come Over, Do Me Wrong’ is a song about the hallucinogenic qualities of a doomed love affair and its toxic allure, the mad philosophical leap of ‘I don’t care what you do as long as you do it to me.’”

The track carries the same themes that are explored throughout the album; centring around violence, shame and emptiness, all delivered with an unmistakable absurdist twist.

As well as sharing new music, Opus Kink have also announced a new UK and European headline tour, which kicks off in November, and features shows in Glasgow, Manchester, London and more.

European shows take place across December, opening with a gig at the Point FMR in Paris and closing with a gig at the Botanique in Brussels on December 16. Before then, the six-piece have some festival slots lined-up too, as well as a slot opening for The Libertines at Rochester Castle.

Last summer, Opus Kink released ‘A Hideous Collection’ – a compilation of 24 tracks to support the Music Venue Trust and the UK Touring Artists Fund, which featured contributions from Wunderhorse, English Teacher, Katy J Pearson, Lambrini Girls and more.

“Touring independent music venues is like this. The most passionate organisers are the ones who do it on a shoestring and are often one bad season away from crumbling,” the Brighton band shared at the time.

“Support for these venues and humans is starting to glimmer in the ashes through donations and awareness and the work of groups like MVT, but as always, unfortunately, it must also take wresting a more fundamental and top–down offering from the industry to really stay the decimation of grassroots live music culture in this country.”
