Overpass have teamed up with Nieve Ella for a new version of fan-favourite ‘Fall In Love’ – check it out below.
The original track appeared on the Birmingham indie band’s debut album ‘Elsewhere, Always’, which was released in June and reached Number Five on the UK Albums Chart.
For the new version, Ella has rewritten the second verse, transforming the song from singer Max Newbold’s one-sided account of a relationship falling apart into a conversation between two different perspectives.
Her contribution serves as a counterpoint to Newbold’s delivery, before the pair come together in harmony towards the end of the track.
“Nieve is an artist that we’ve known and admired since starting out as a band,” Newbold said. “With both of us being from the Midlands, it’s been amazing to grow alongside each other and hit similar milestones together.”
He continued: “When we had the idea of having a feature on an album track, Nieve was our immediate first choice. We loved the idea of re-writing the second verse of ‘Fall In Love’ to give the meaning a fresh perspective.
“Nieve’s input added this extra dimension to the song, and we’re so excited for people to hear it.”
The two artists previously previewed their version when Ella joined Overpass on stage at Reading Festival last month.
Ella said the collaboration felt particularly personal because of her connection to the song’s subject matter.
“Having my part on ‘Fall In Love’ is super special for me as I resonate with the meaning of the song a lot,” she explained. “Being young and in love is sometimes complicated when you are living a life on the go all the time.”
She added: “Overpass is a band I’ve always loved, so it’s a privilege to be a part of something with such a great group of people.”
Speaking to NME backstage at Mad Cool in July, Overpass said the response to ‘Elsewhere, Always’ had already taken them further than they expected.
“We’ve done a few overseas festivals so far, and because we’re still quite new to this market, people won’t necessarily know all the words,” bassist India Armstrong said. “But still it’s been great to see people really buzzing for it. In the UK especially, it has been so special.”
The band also revealed that they had already started writing new material, with their cover of Harry Styles’ ‘American Girls’ helping inspire them to move outside their usual songwriting habits.
Their sold-out autumn UK and Ireland headline tour begins in Belfast on October 23, and they have also announced their biggest headline run to date for April 2027, including shows at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Nottingham’s Rock City. Find any remaining tickets here.
Ella, meanwhile, will release her debut album ‘How Long Will It Take?’ on October 16.
Speaking to NME about the record this summer, she described it as an album about “growing and learning that nothing is really linear”, adding that making it had become “like therapy” for her.
