Paris Jackson has celebrated being five years “clean and sober” from drugs and alcohol.
The 26-year-old, who is the daughter of late pop legend Michael Jackson, revealed on Instagram on Tuesday that she has been sober since 7 January 2020.
“Hi, i’m pk (Paris Katherine) and i’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” she captioned the post. “Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. to say that i’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. gratitude hardly scratches the surface.
“It’s because i’m sober that i get to smile today. i get to make music. i get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. i get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. i get to grieve. i get to laugh. i get to dance. i get to trust. i feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. i’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether i’m sober or not, but today i get to show up for it.”
Of the video, she explained, “Here’s a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god i can’t believe i almost missed it all. thanks.”
The video featured a montage of clips of the musician’s sobriety journey, beginning with glimpses of her drinking alcohol, smoking weed and looking sad. After a set of images of her sobriety chips, which mark her progress, Paris then shared clips of herself as a happy sober person, writing music and enjoying life with her pets and fiancé Justin Long.
Paris, who got engaged to the music producer in December, concluded her video with the written message: “To those that helped me on this journey, if only for just the beginning, middle, or the whole time so far, you know who you are and i owe you my life. thank you. 5 years. THANK GOD.”
The Let Down singer has previously spoken about her drug addiction, battle with depression, and suicide attempts. In a 2017 profile with Rolling Stone, Paris stated that she was sober, however, her new Instagram post indicates that she relapsed at some point between then and January 2020.
