Paris Jackson has opened up about calling off her engagement to Justin Long.
The 28-year-old, who is the daughter of Michael Jackson, announced her engagement to the music producer in December 2024 after two years of dating. However, she revealed in August last year that they had broken up.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday, Paris explained why she called off her engagement.
“It was a choice that I needed to make to be happy,” she divulged. “There were times where I did try and end it, but there was this little voice being like, ‘What if however long down the line…?’ This is a voice that a lot of us have, of, ‘If I had just hung in there a little bit longer, it would have gotten better.’ I’m the person that needs to be sure – really, really needs to be sure.”
The musician worked with her therapist, clinical psychologist, coach and a “whole council of people” and ultimately realised that Justin wasn’t the one.
“(They were) asking me the right questions of, ‘Why would you stay?’ And my answers weren’t good enough,” she recalled. “I’ve realised just because someone is a good person doesn’t mean they’re my person, and I have to be happy and I realise that my non-negotiables are allowed to be non-negotiables.”
Paris continued, “If these big major needs are not being met, it doesn’t matter that you’re a good person and you’re not going to cheat on me. That’s not a reason to stay.”
The actress also revealed that she was secretly engaged to somebody else before Long and called time on that relationship too.
“The first one, I don’t know if you could count the first one, (but it) was real to me, even though we were strung out on drugs and the ring was one that he bought with my money without me knowing,” she shared.
Paris, who is six years sober, noted that she took time to work on herself after the second failed engagement and realised she could “be a little bit pickier” with who she dates next.
“The bar can be raised a bit because it’s historically been very low,” she candidly admitted.
When asked for her current dating status, Paris coyly replied that she’s “happy”.
