Paris Jackson ‘so proud’ of new songs honouring Michael Jackson

Paris Jackson is “so proud” of the double single she recorded in honour of her late father, Michael Jackson.

Over the weekend, the singer-songwriter released tracks The Breeze and Just Me and You via Republic Records to coincide with the King of Pop’s birthday, 29 August.

The Thriller hitmaker died at the age of 50 in 2009. He was also the father of Prince Jackson, 29, and Bigi Jackson, 24.

In a teaser of an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music published on Sunday, Paris shared that she was entering a new era as a musician.

“I’m so proud of this double single. I’m so proud of my coming into my own as a producer and coming into my own as a songwriter and also saying f**k the rules, we’re not gonna have a chorus, we’re not gonna have a bridge,” she explained. “The first one’s gonna be the letter, and the kind of spoken word, and the second one is gonna be some verses and a chorus with a weird instrumental thing at the end.”

Paris went on to emphasise that the tracks offer some insight into her relationship with her father.

“But by no means does it feel like a complete message of, ‘Well, this is all I have to say about this.’ It’s like I’m probably just gonna keep the rest of it to myself for now,” the 28-year-old added.

Upon dropping the songs online, Paris posted a statement on Instagram in which she insisted the work was “not a tribute”.

“It’s not a commemoration. It’s not a demonstration of any kind. It is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience – with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one,” she declared.

Paris unveiled her second studio album, Happiest Day of My Life, earlier this month.

She will soon embark on a mini-tour, kicking off with a show in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday night.
