Paul McCartney extends historic chart record with The Boys of Dungeon Lane

Rock legend Paul McCartney has extended his lead as the most successful albums act in the history of the UK Official Chart, securing another chart-topping milestone with his latest release, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. The new record lands straight at Number 1, marking McCartney’s 20th solo studio album and bringing his career total to an unprecedented 24 Number 1 albums across a career spanning seven decades.

A closer look at the data underscores McCartney’s unparalleled dominance in modern music history. His historic tally of 24 chart-toppers includes 15 Number 1 albums as a core member of The Beatles, two fronting Wings, one alongside his late wife Linda McCartney for the 1971 masterpiece Ram, and six as a solo artist. The legendary songwriter’s chart-topping lineage began 63 years ago with The Beatles’ debut album Please Please Me in 1963, extending through iconic releases like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road, up to his recent solo triumphs McCartney III in 2020 and now The Boys of Dungeon Lane.

Meanwhile, the Official Singles Chart witnessed a high-profile showdown at the top. Pop superstar Ariana Grande managed to hold off stiff competition from chart heavyweights Sam Smith and Olivia Rodrigo to secure the UK Number 1 spot. Her latest track, “hate that i made you love me,” becomes her eighth Number 1 single in the UK, cementing her own status as one of the definitive hitmakers of the streaming era.

McCartney’s latest achievement further solidifies his status as the most prolific album chart artist of all time, setting a benchmark that remains unmatched by any other group or solo performer in British music history. The Boys of Dungeon Lane is available now across all physical and digital formats worldwide, continuing a monumental chart legacy that shows no signs of slowing down.
