Pink praises Broadway theatre as ‘brave’ at 2026 Tony Awards

Pink lauded the “brave” artists of Broadway theatre at the 2026 Tony Awards on Sunday night.

The singer-songwriter, real name Alecia Beth Moore, hosted the prizegiving held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Taking to the stage for a monologue, Pink addressed the tense political climate in the United States.

“We go to a Broadway show to look at what the state of the world is. This year, the worst parts of history began repeating itself and we were given (play) Liberation and (musical) Ragtime,” she began. “This year, our country became more divided than ever, and we were given (musical) Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).”

Pink also went on to reference the continued attacks against members of the transgender community.

“This year, our trans siblings began to lose even more rights, and we were given (reimagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic 1981 musical) Cats: A Jellicle Ball,” the So What hitmaker smiled. “Theatre is like group therapy: We journey to Midtown not knowing one another. We laugh and cry together, and by the time we leave, we have a different perspective on life. And how much (liquorice-type candy) Twizzlers should cost.”

To conclude, Pink declared: “Broadway theatre is brave.”

The Get the Party Started star was supported by her husband Carey Hart, daughter Willow, and son Jameson, nine, at the ceremony.

And amid her speech, the singer-songwriter acknowledged 15-year-old Willow’s passion for theatre.

“Tonight, I am here as Broadway’s biggest fan – well, second biggest next to my daughter, Willow,” she quipped. “I don’t know where she is (in the venue), but I did not take this job so my kid could get Broadway selfies, although (we have done that backstage before)… and a couple for mama.”

Liberation by Bess Wohl won the Tony Award for Best Play, while Schmigadoon! took home Best Musical at the event.
