Every couple has a version of it: a meet-cute story about the first time they came into each other’s lives. Just ask Nick Jonas and wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The pair were on the Hey Jonas podcast together this week, where Priyanka revealed to fellow Jonas Brothers members Joe and Kevin Jonas that when she and Nick first met he was excited, but a bit skeptical about her intentions.
“He wanted to corroborate it was actually me,” Chopra Jonas, 43, explained about Nick’s request that she prove to him that she was who she claimed to be. “So he asked me for a photo [in] that moment looking at the camera with a timestamp.” Not the world’s most romantic gesture, but Chopra Jonas said she was intrigued, so she agreed.
“I was like, ‘That is so sus of me already.’ But I appreciated it too,” she added.
Nick, 33, also described how the whole thing started, recalling that Kevin had asked him if he’d seen Quantico, an ABC drama starring Priyanka that ran from 2015-2018. “And I said, ‘I have not,’ and then as he’s talking about it, I look up on Sunset Boulevard and there’s a billboard of your face,’” he said, as he and his wife adorably held hands. She even more adorably put her other hand under her chin and batted her eyes at the romance of it all.
“And so then I go to Twitter and I’m like, ‘Ah, I wonder if she follows me?’ Which you did,” Nick said. Chopra Jonas said she didn’t think her husband had that part exactly correct, but Nick pressed on, posting the DM he’d sent to her at the time. Joe did a dramatic reading of the message, which read: “Hello, I’ve heard from a few people that we should meet. I have to agree with these people.. Are you in LA anytime soon?”
The response from Chopra Jonas, read by Kevin just as enthusiastically, read: “Hey.. Graham’s told me so much about you..Let’s text. More private. My team can access this.”
“Damn, so Quantico of you!,” Joe teased about his sister-in-law’s all-business, trust-but-verify response. But when Kevin asked for the first text sent to Chopra Jonas’ number, Nick said that was not possible, only to be overruled by his wife, who revealed Nick’s first message to be that alluring request for corroboration.
Long story short, they began texting, but didn’t start dating for another year and a half. When Nick said that they then “eventually” got engaged, his brothers called BS again, forcing Chopra Jonas to admit that they actually got engaged within two and a half months; the couple married in December 2018. This December, the couple, who share four-year-old daughter Matli Marie Chopra Jonas, will celebrate their eighth anniversary.
