Quavo Speeds Through the Streets of Atlanta in ‘Takeover’ Movie Trailer

Quavo Speeds Through the Streets of Atlanta in ‘Takeover’ Movie Trailer

Quavo takes the spotlight in the official trailer for Takeover, a forthcoming crime-drama that finds the rap star stepping into his most prominent acting role yet.

Co-starring Billy Zane, Serayah, LaMonica Garrett, and Martin Sensmeier, Takeover will also feature a posthumous appearance from late Migos member Takeoff in what marks the rapper’s final on-screen role.

His appearance was made possible through the groundbreaking hybrid animation technology developed by Trioscope, the studio behind the animated Netflix drama The Liberator.

According to the film’s synopsis, Quavo plays Guy Miller, an ex-con who was once a major player in Atlanta’s underworld and is searching for redemption after a lengthy stint behind bars.

“Fresh out of prison and determined to build something different, he’s pulled back into the chaos when a high-stakes job spins out of control,” reads the synopsis. “What starts as a quick play ignites a citywide chain reaction — rival crews circling, law enforcement tightening its grip, and powerful forces manipulating the night from behind the scenes.”

In one scene, Miller meets with what appears to be his parole officer, who references the death of his brother Vernon Miller, killed during a robbery that left behind two children to whom Guy ultimately becomes a father figure.

As the plot draws out, Guy finds his back against the wall and his family in danger, forcing him to return to the street-racing world that cost him years of his life, resulting in him “confronting old loyalties, fractured alliances, and the version of himself he thought he left behind.”

The circumstances surrounding Vernon’s death echo the real-life tragedy of Takeoff, who was killed in a 2022 shooting in Houston — suggesting the late rapper may portray Vernon in the film.

Takeover is brought to life through Trioscope’s hybrid animation process, blending live-action performances with a graphic-novel visual style. The project was produced in association with GNR Films LLC, Huncho Films, Quality Films, and Real Folk Productions, and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 8.

While Takeover marks Quavo’s most substantial acting role to date, the artist has built a modest filmography through a series of television and film appearances.

Early on, he appeared alongside Migos in Atlanta (2016) before making guest appearances in shows like Black-ish and Ballers in 2019, as well as a cameo in Narcos: Mexico.

His film credits include roles in Savage Salvation, where he played a character named Coyote, the action-heist film High Rollers alongside John Travolta, and the crime drama Moses the Black with Omar Epps and Wiz Khalifa.
