A good outfit and glam combo isn’t enough to save Rachel Chinouriri from an existential downward spiral at the club on her latest single, “One Song Away From Crying.” “She’s never looked better and she’s never felt worse,” the British singer and songwriter sings on the record, which offers the first glimpse into her upcoming second studio album, I Think I Spoke Too Soon, out Oct. 16.

“‘One song away from crying’ is about the precipice of a night out where you know you need to leave and have to make a decision,” Chinouriri shared in a statement. “It’s a deeper decision because it’s less about the night itself but more about a reflection of a deeper internal conflict with your self value that you haven’t looked at yet.”

Towards the end of 2024, Chinouriri told Rolling Stone she would be taking a different approach to her music than the emotional excavation on What a Devastating Turn of Events. “This is a world that I’ve now made, which I can step into when I need to and grab the stories that I need,” she said. “Or maybe I’m creating a new world where I write from a happy place and teach myself to write from a place of healing versus a place of trauma.”

The title of her second LP suggests Chinouriri might have explored both paths in different ways. “My core thing is you can change who you are at any moment and you can forgive yourself at any moment,” she shared in a statement. “And I think forgiving yourself is the first step in becoming a better person.” I Think I Spoke Too Soon will capture this deeper exploration of her relationship with herself.

Chinouriri established this foundation across What a Devastating Turn of Events alongside records that interrogated her understanding of everything from complicated family dynamics to unfulfilling relationships and her sense of belonging away from home. Her 2025 EP Little House, featuring the loved up single “Can We Talk About Isaac,” expanded her growing catalogue. “We’re all slightly broken or traumatized by something,” Chinouriri said. “We all accept that, and it’s OK to be emotional.”

In the weeks leading up to I Think I Spoke Too Soon, Chinouriri will host intimate performances at select venues across Los Angeles, New York, Dublin, London, Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Sydney, and Melbourne.
