Radiohead postpone two concerts as Thom Yorke battles ‘extreme throat infection’

Radiohead have been forced to postpone their next two concerts as frontman Thom Yorke battles an “extreme throat infection”.

The Creep hitmakers announced on social media on Monday that they were unable to play the first two shows of their four-night residency at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark on Monday and Tuesday.

The shows have been rescheduled for 15 and 16 December, while the band hopes to perform the latter two gigs as scheduled on 4 and 5 December.

“We are devastated to have to postpone these two shows at such short notice but Thom has been diagnosed with an extreme throat infection which has made it impossible for him to sing,” the statement reads.

“Treatment is underway and we’re hopeful Thom will recover in time to play the final two Copenhagen shows on Dec 4th and 5th, and all four Berlin shows, starting on Dec 8th.”

They concluded their post by adding, “We have been so blown away by the audience reactions on these dates and are loving being back on stage again; needless to say, we feel terrible that we have been forced to postpone these shows.”

Radiohead returned to the stage for the first time in seven years in early November for a string of shows in Madrid, Spain, followed by four dates in Bologna, Italy and a four-night residency at London’s O2 Arena last week.

After their stint in Copenhagen, Yorke and his bandmates Jonny and Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien and Philip Selway will conclude their comeback tour with four nights in Berlin, Germany next week.

When they announced the trek in September, drummer Selway explained that they reunited last year to rehearse “just for the hell of it” and decided that they wanted to play some shows together.

“After a seven year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us,” he wrote, before teasing more dates: “For now, it will just be these ones but who knows where this will all lead.”
