RAYE claims historic first Number 1 album with ‘THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.’

RAYE claims historic first Number 1 album with ‘THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.’

The British music scene belongs to RAYE in 2026. The independent South London superstar has officially secured her first-ever Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with her latest project, THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE. This victory marks RAYE’s second major chart-topper of the year, following the success of “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!”, which became the first Official Singles Chart Number 1 of 2026. The new album surpasses the peak of her 2023 debut, My 21st Century Blues, which reached Number 2. Proving the strength of her physical fanbase, the record also claims the top spot on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.

It was a busy week for high-profile debuts. Ye (formerly Kanye West) secured his tenth Top 10 album—and his first under his new moniker—with BULLY entering at Number 3. The timing is perfect for the rap mogul, who is set to headline three nights at London’s Finsbury Park for the Wireless Festival this July. Meanwhile, New York’s Melanie Martinez earned her third Top 10 LP as HADES landed at Number 5.

Rock fans also had plenty to celebrate. Bedford’s Don Broco maintained their impressive streak, banking a fourth consecutive Top 10 album with Nightmare Tripping (7). Additionally, Colchester outfit PET NEEDS reached a career-best at Number 16 with ELBOWS OUT! THIS IS CAPITALISM, which also topped the Official Record Store Chart as the week’s best-seller in independent shops.

Further down the Top 10, London singer-songwriter Tom Misch returned to the upper echelons with Full Circle (9). Perhaps most notably, Swedish pop icon Robyn reached a new milestone three decades into her legendary career, securing her first-ever UK Top 10 album with Sexistential (10).

Nostalgia played a role in this week’s movement as well. An expanded Collector’s Edition of Queen’s 1974 classic Queen II surged back into the Top 40 at Number 14, marking its first appearance there in half a century.

From independent pioneers like RAYE to rock veterans and alt-pop risers like Slayyyter—who earned her first chart entry at Number 36—the UK charts continue to reflect a diverse and thriving musical landscape.
