Raye, Quavo and Jelly Roll are set to be honoured at Variety’s 2024 Hitmakers celebration.
On Tuesday, Variety announced that the three artists will be honoured at its eighth annual Hitmakers event on 7 December.
The trio will join Charli XCX, who was previously announced as this year’s Hitmaker of the Year.
British singer-songwriter Raye will receive the Triple Threat award for her work as an artist and her constant support of the songwriting community.
Rapper Quavo will receive the Humanitarian of the Year Award for his work on gun control, and singer and rapper Jelly Roll will be honoured with the Changemaker of the Year Award for his work with addiction recovery and the incarcerated.
In a new statement, Variety’s executive music editor Jem Aswad explained why the artists were chosen for the prestigious awards.
“Jelly Roll speaks often of his own struggles as a young person, and has used those experiences to create and contribute to multiple efforts on behalf of incarcerated youth, addiction-recovery and more, even addressing Congress earlier this year,” Aswad said.
The music editor then acknowledged the death of Quavo’s Migos bandmate Takeoff, who was killed in 2022.
He stated, “Quavo lost his nephew and Migos bandmate Takeoff in a senseless shooting, and has created the Rocket Foundation to end gun violence – and has partnered with Vice President Kamala Harris and the first ever White House Office Of Gun Violence Prevention to advocate for criminal violence intervention.”
Jem continued, “And RAYE is a forceful advocate for songwriters, who are inexplicably at the bottom of the music-streaming economy.”
More honourees are set to be announced in the coming weeks.
