Reverend & The Makers team up with “the soundest fella in the music game” Robbie Williams for introspective single ‘Fucked Up’

It’s the final preview of the band’s forthcoming eighth album, ‘Is This How Happiness Feels?’, which is set for release on May 8 via Distiller. Visit here to pre-order.

The track sees frontman Jon McClure and Williams trade verses about their respective chaotic youths, while they both explore the perils of excess.

Their meeting came after Williams praised The Lottery Winners‘ ‘You Again’, which was written by McClure, on social media. The two became friends, and Reverend And The Makers joined him on his recent ‘Long 90s’ UK tour.

Williams also included the band in his list of personal recommendations of acts to see at Glastonbury last year.

“We’d both been through a lot of mad stuff,” McClure said of the collaboration, “and then you grow as a person, don’t you? Rob’s the soundest fella in the music game. A real pleasure to collab with him.”

Check out the track, and its Charlie Lightening-directed music video, below.

Reverend And The Makers’ eighth studio release follows the band’s top 10 album ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’, and sees them merge “life-affirming soul with contemporary lyrical storytelling”.

“This album has been a labour of love owing to personal reasons but has emerged as a joyous triumph,” said McClure. “It’s easily the best thing we’ve ever done and will surprise a few people too.”

In other news, McClure was announced last month as the new club chairman of Sheffield FC.

Meanwhile, McClure previously revealed to NME that he had been diagnosed with ADHD.

He said at the time: “I understand myself better. When I was 24, I thought I knew everything and I’d gob off to NME about everything. I knew fuck all. Looking back, to when I was kicking off at people, I was probably quite poorly for most of my career. I wasn’t well mentally. If you add drugs into that, plus my best mate [Alex Turner] being in the biggest band in the world and feeling jealous of him, it was a bad mix.”

He added: “Now I understand myself, ADHD is like a special power I’ve not known how to harness before. I’m 42 and it’s like I was infantilised until now. In my case, before being diagnosed, ADHD left me taking a lot longer to grow up and be responsible. Now I have, I feel I can do anything.”
