Ricky Martin’s concert in Montenegro was briefly interrupted after a person sprayed tear gas towards the stage on Thursday night.
The Livin’ la Vida Loca hitmaker was rushed off stage during his first concert on the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour after the major incident.
Revealing the news in a statement on Instagram, Martin’s publicist, Róndine Alcalá, wrote, “An individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance.”
She continued, “As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.”
The Puerto Rican singer’s representative explained that Martin and his team were advised to scrap the remainder of the concert, but the She Bangs star didn’t want to let down his fans and resumed the show.
“Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to fans,” the statement reads.
In the caption, she assured fans that Martin and his team “are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro”.
The incident has not affected any of his upcoming shows, including his next tour stop in Moldova on 12 June.
Martin, 54, has yet to comment on the incident himself.
