Ricky Wilson says new Kaiser Chiefs album is coming after ‘the gods’ sent him a tune

Ricky Wilson says he will start work on the next Kaiser Chiefs album after he woke up with a new melody in his head “like it was sent from the gods.”

The 48-year-old star compared the surreal experience to Sir Paul McCartney having Yesterday and Let It Be come to him in a dream.

He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I’m going to write another album.

“I woke up this morning with a tune in my head, and it’s really good. I’ve already sent it to the band.”

The I Predict A Riot singer added: “I get very excited because I’ve heard all the stories about The Beatles and the Rolling Stones who woke up with a song in their head. So I always think to myself, ‘Maybe the gods have sent me something’.”

The singer also spoke about how giving up alcohol two years ago has changed both his routine and his time on stage.

He said: “There’s no drinking. I gave it up two years ago and it’s a lot less chaotic, and a lot more fun.

“You save all that actual hardcore partying for the 90 minutes on stage, and not afterwards, so it’s even better.”

He added that performing sober has sharpened his connection with the crowd: “I think it’s better for the audience, and I laugh a lot more. I’m able to enjoy the moment a lot more.”

Ricky said the biggest shift has been waking up ready to work again: “I much prefer getting up feeling like I want to do it again, and looking forward to the next show and not wanting to stay under a blanket all day.”

Kaiser Chiefs’ most recent record was 2024’s Kaiser Chiefs’ Easy Eighth Album.

In the meantime, fans can catch Ricky starring as Teen Angel in the revival of Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical.

The run at Evolution London in Battersea Park kicked off on July 22, and is due to end on September 13.

Reflecting on joining the cast, the Ruby hitmaker said: “At school I was in Grease and I feel I have to redeem myself. I was not yet the international pop sensation I am today and I only really wanted to do it cos I fancied the girl who played Frenchie (I was Doody) so this is my chance to show everyone I should have got a bigger part. I don’t believe anyone from that production is now a professional singer, so in short, I win.”
