Rosalía addressed the recent train crash in her native Spain as she accepted a prize at WSJ. Magazine’s Innovator Awards on Thursday.
The Spanish singer offered her condolences to those affected by the deadly crash as she accepted this year’s Music Innovator prize in New York City.
“Sending my condolences to all the people affected by the accident that recently occurred in my country,” Rosalía said in Spanish from the podium at The Museum of Modern Art, reports Billboard. “There was a train accident and there were many victims. And the truth is that I would like to send all my love and support to each and every person affected by it.”
At least 69 people were killed when a train travelling from Madrid to Seville collided with a stationary train near Urda, causing several carriages to come off the tracks and fall down an embankment.
The crash is one of the deadliest train disasters in Europe this century and Spain’s worst collision since 2013. The country began three days of national mourning on Thursday, and the tragedy is currently under investigation.
The Innovator win comes amid a successful awards streak for the Berghain hitmaker, who also won International Artist of the Year at the BRITs in February and International Songwriter of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards in May, among other wins.
This year’s WSJ honourees also included Amy Poehler, writer-director Martin McDonagh, and Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy, among others.
