Rosalía has shared a brand new track, the wistful ‘Omega’ featuring Ralphie Choo.
The pop star dropped the song to celebrate her 32nd birthday yesterday (September 25), which sees her team up with Madrid-based producer and songwriter Choo. ‘Omega’ sees Rosalía reflect on her time with someone, admitting: “You are the best/ And before you, I was the worst” (as per Genius).
Speaking about the track, Rosalía said: “Omega is the end, it’s the celebration of having found what you wanted and the security with which one decides to stay. Omega is firmness with the one you love that makes you not want to be anywhere else but there.
“It’s been such a pleasure to collaborate with Ralphie, he’s a whirlwind of energy in the studio!! He’s also a really happy spirit, super creative and incredibly generous. I remember that we sent each other so many songs before we got into the studio to work on Omega because we’re both such music lovers and I realised right away that our musical taste is really similar.”
She continued: “I had the feeling we would get each other in the studio and that’s exactly how it went! We laughed a lot while we were writing and while we shot the video. If Ralphie were to call me tomorrow to go to an amusement park with him I’d go without batting an eye.
“Personally, I feel very grateful to have been able to collaborate with someone like him and also to have been able to witness his passion and his talent.” Listen to ‘Omega’ here:
The ballad follows Rosalía’s recent collaboration ‘New Woman’ with BLACKPINK‘s Lisa and her song with Björk, called ‘Oral’.
Earlier this month, Rosalía revealed she was working on her fourth album, with the Spanish singer saying: “It’s been a process.
“I’ve changed a lot, but at the same time, I’m still wrapping my head around the same things. It’s like I still have the same questions and the same desire to answer them. I still have the same love for the past and the same curiosity for the future.”
Rosalía has also hinted previously at her upcoming material whilst celebrating her track ‘Despecha’ reaching 1billion streams on Spotify – making Rosalía the first Spanish artist to reach the achievement.
In a caption, she wrote: “Hopefully life will allow me to share many more songs. For now, I’m still working on the new album and I can only say that the wait will be worth it.”
Her last album was 2022’s ‘Motomami’, which NME hailed five stars: “Rosalía isn’t so much carving out her own lane as building her own ultra-modern, super-bendy sonic motorway. It’s one you’ll want to hurtle down again and again.”
In other news, Björk has shared the backstory behind ‘Oral’, saying the song pinpoints “that moment when you’ve met someone, and you don’t know if it’s friendship or something more.”
