Rush reportedly in talks for a Las Vegas Sphere residency

Rush are reportedly in talks to lock in a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

The rumours come amid the Canadian prog legends embarking on their ‘Fifty Something’ tour earlier this year, which sees Geddy Lee (vocals, bass) and Alex Lifeson (guitar) team up with drummer Anika Nilles.

The shows are seeing them break out classics from across their discography, and celebrating the life and legacy of late drummer Neil Peart, who undeniably shaped their distinctive sound and died in 2020 after quietly battling brain cancer for three years.

Now, following the tour kicking off in June with the North American leg and set to head to the UK, Europe and South America in 2027, reports have emerged that a residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas could be on the cards too.

According to a report from The Sun, a source has revealed that the prog icons have had “talks [that] have been secretly going on now for a while,” and “the word is that contracts could be locked down in the next couple of weeks”.

“Rush has an enormous audience across North America. Even though they are Canadian, their music and success has been huge in the US,” the source reportedly added. “Their hits, history and live performances make them an attractive proposition.”

There have also been rumours of a residency before then too, with fansite ‘Rush Is A Band’ sharing last week that SiriusXM host Eddie Trunk claimed on his radio show that the residency plans are now a “done deal” and could include as many as 18 live shows at the Nevada venue (via Blabbermouth).

At time of writing, there is no official confirmation from the band nor the venue about whether they are looking into a residency. Rush’s ‘Fifty Something’ tour continues across the US and Canada over the next two months, before heading across the pond in 2027. Visit here for tickets and here for a list of dates.

The groundbreaking venue opened in 2023, cost $2.3billion (£1.7billion) to make, and features an exosphere with over 1.2million puck-sized LEDs that transmit images across the Las Vegas skyline.

U2 were the first to perform at the venue, kicking things off a residency that ran between September 2023 and March 2024.

Reviewing the band’s opening night, NME praised the show for “taking the live concert experience ‘to the next level’” and delivering “a fine balancing act of doing just that while also ensuring their music remains very much at the forefront”.

Since then, Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles and the Backstreet Boys have all played residencies there, and No Doubt recently closed out their run of reunion shows by bringing out Olivia Rodrigo as a special guest.

Metallica confirmed a residency at the venue earlier this year, after hinting that they were close to signing a deal with organisers. Those shows are set to begin later this year, and will follow the same ‘No Repeat Weekend’ tradition that began with their ‘M72 World Tour’ – where no songs are repeated on each Thursday and Saturday throughout the residency.

Those Metallica gigs have now been extended into 2027 due to high demand, and drummer Lars Ulrich has admitted that he thinks the ask is “overwhelming and fucking intimidating”.

There have also been some reports that Tool are in talks for a Sphere residency too, but nothing has been confirmed at time of writing.
