Sabrina Carpenter jokingly called Christina Aguilera her “mom” during a Kardashians-inspired social video, made while filming an unknown collaborative project together.
On Aguilera’s Instagram, she and Carpenter shared a video of themselves on set lip-syncing to a popular clip from The Kardashians – where Kylie Jenner said she was “obsessed” with her mother and manager, Kris.
“So you’re saying you’re her favourite?” someone asked in the audio, while Carpenter pans the camera to show Aguilera.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” Carpenter continued to lip-sync before hugging Aguilera and pointing at herself, while Jenner continued to speak in the audio: “I’m her favourite. We actually have a relationship like she has no other kids. Yeah.”
The two could have been on set to record footage for Aguilera’s upcoming Spotify Anniversaries episode to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her 1999 self-titled debut album, which will be out September 23.
According to Rolling Stone, Carpenter and Machine Gun Kelly will duet on a track with the ‘Genie In A Bottle’ singer as a part of the video series, which will include live performances of select tracks and stories behind making the album.
The duo could also be recording content for Carpenter’s upcoming seasonal Netflix special, A Nonsense Christmas. She’ll be joined by musical and “comedic guests” and perform songs from her 2023 Christmas EP ‘Fruitcake’, which includes a festive version of her 2022 hit ‘Nonsense’.
Carpenter told PAPER back in August that she’s been a fan of Aguilera since childhood, calling the pop icon “one of my very first idols and icons.” She added: “She’s very special to me. Those songs raised me.”
Earlier this month, Carpenter picked up the Song of the Year award for her hit ‘Espresso‘ at the 2024 MTV VMAs. She also performed the song as well as ‘Taste‘ and ‘Please, Please, Please‘ during the ceremony.

While on stage, she kissed an alien and paid homage to Britney Spears by playing a snippet of the audio from ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’. Spears – who infamously kissed Aguilera and Madonna at the 2003 VMAs – said she didn’t “understand” the performance and found it “weird”‘.
Last month, Carpenter dropped her highly-anticipated sixth album, ‘Short n’ Sweet’. “As ‘Short n’ Sweet’ arrives, then, it feels like the 25-year-old singer is at something of a turning point. Keep Carpenter’s musical calling cards, justify the hype, and she’ll soon be levelling up to major festival headliner – and this record largely gets the job done,” NME wrote in a four-star review.
