Announced on Radio 1’s New Music Show with Jack Saunders, the competition opens on 29 July 2026. Unsigned and emerging musicians can submit their original music via the BBC Introducing Uploader until 5 August 2026, selecting the ‘Sam Smith’ tag for consideration. A specialized BBC Introducing panel will create a shortlist before Smith personally selects the final ten winners to open each show. Beyond securing a coveted supporting slot, the chosen artists will also receive featured coverage across BBC Introducing platforms.
The residency shows follow the release of Smith’s highly anticipated fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes, scheduled for release on 21 August 2026. The UK live run kicks off on 3 September 2026, featuring two nights at Manchester’s historic Albert Hall followed by an extensive eight-night residency at the London Coliseum.
