Selena Gomez has revealed that she “can’t carry” her own children due to “medical issues”.
The singer/actress has publicly revealed for the first time that she can’t carry her own children because of her medical history.
“I unfortunately … have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy,” Selena, 32, said in a new cover story for Vanity Fair. “That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
The Only Murders in the Building star was diagnosed with lupus in 2013, and underwent chemotherapy and a kidney transplant four years later in 2017.
Selena told the publication that she had imagined carrying a child one day.
“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it,” she admitted. “I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone.”
However, the Spring Breakers actress went on to say that she has had time to process the information and is aware that she has options, such as surrogacy.
“I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” Selena shared. “It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people.”
“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different,” she continued. “At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Selena has been dating record producer and songwriter Benny Blanco since July 2023. He recently revealed during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show that he wants to have a child with the actress.
