‘Sesame Street’ Takes a ‘Golden’ Opportunity With Parody Album, Turns Chappell Roan Hit Into Potty-Training Anthem

“P” is for parody, and that’s good enough for us! Billboard can exclusively reveal Wednesday (June 24) that Sesame Street is putting the building blocks together to release an adorable album featuring kid-friendly parodies of some of pop music’s biggest hits.

The seven-song album, titled Parody Party, will feature three previously released satirical send-ups, and four new takes. The collection arrives July 26 and is distributed by Warner Music’s Arts Music.

The lead single is Cookie Monster’s “Take a Bite” about — of course — his favorite topic, cookies! Billboard also has the debut of the adorable music video, in which the baked-treat enthusiast takes on Bruno Mars’ Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “I Just Might” and croons about the perfect way to bake cookies.

“Hey, Mr. Baker! Oooooh!/ We can’t resist that buttery flavor!/ If cookie tastes as good as it looks right now/ Me will take a bite, a big bite!/ Me not going to wait, me gobble up entire plate, hey!” Cookie sings excitedly as his fellow cookie monsters jam alongside him.

In addition to “Take a Bite,” the tracklist includes:

  • “Where Is My Lovie?” is Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster and Elmo’s take on RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband!” (No. 11). The R&B track will follow the trio’s search for a beloved toy that has gone missing.
  • “Go for the Gold,” a take on HUNTR/X’s eight-week No. 1 hit “Golden” from Netflix’s smash KPop Demon Hunters. The parody features Abby, Zoe and Rosita “celebrating the power of teamwork and friendship,” according to Sesame Street.
  • “Got to Go” is a potty-training anthem of Chappell Roan’s No. 15 hit “Hot to Go!” delivered by Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby, and features lyrics that help kids recognize when their bodies are telling them it’s time to go to the bathroom.
  • The previously released “Me Want It, But Me Wait” — a take of Icona Pop’s 2013 No. 7 hit “I Love It” — has Cookie Monster back on center stage again, singing about how to practice will power when tempted by his favorite sweets.
  • Taylor Swift’s 2014 four-week No. 1 “Shake It Off,” which everyone’s favorite grump, Oscar the Grouch, took on years ago is also included. The trash-can-residing creature’s version of the hit is an ode to recycling.
  • Last but not least, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” — which was No. 1 for nine weeks in 2012 — is also parodied on the album. Cookie Monster’s previously released take, titled “Share It Maybe,” is all about how offering one’s treats to others can also bring great joy.

“Sesame Street has always been at the forefront of popular culture, using music as a powerful way to connect with each new generation,” Aaron Bisman, svp, head of marketing for Sesame Workshop, said in a statement. “From iconic original songs to clever, catchy parodies, music has long helped us engage the adults in young children’s lives while bringing our educational mission to life in fresh, engaging ways. Parody Party marks an exciting new chapter in Sesame Street’s musical history and reinforces our ongoing commitment to creativity, innovation and cultural relevance.”

Parody Party is available to pre-save now.
