Shakira announces landmark concert at Great Pyramids of Giza – her first Egypt performance in almost 20 years

Shakira has announced a concert at the Great Pyramids of Giza – her first performance in Egypt in almost 20 years.

The Colombian pop icon will perform against the backdrop of the pyramids on November 28, in a show presented by Venture Lifestyle. Tickets and further information are available here.

The concert will mark a return to a setting that holds particular significance for Shakira, who previously performed at the Pyramids in 2007 during her ‘Oral Fixation’ tour.

In anticipation of the show, Shakira said: “I’m very happy to be performing in Egypt, at the Pyramids of Giza. I love you all.”

The Great Pyramids of Giza are the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, and have increasingly been used as a setting for international live events with major music stars in recent years.

Shakira is also set to perform at the first ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The 11-minute show, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, will also feature Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus and characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets. It will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which is seeking to raise $100million to expand children’s access to education and football around the world.

Shakira also helped open the 2026 FIFA World Cup last month, performing at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium alongside Burna Boy and J Balvin. She performed ‘Dai Dai’, the official anthem for this World Cup, and Shakira’s third official World Cup song, following 2010’s ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ and 2014’s ‘Dare (La La La)’.

Back in May, Shakira announced that 100 per cent of profits from ‘Dai Dai’ would be donated to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. She later confirmed that $500,000 from the fund would be used to support education intervention for children affected by the recent Venezuela earthquakes.

The Pyramids show will also follow Shakira’s ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ era, which has seen her return to the road for her first tour since 2018.

The album, released in 2024, won Best Latin Pop Album at the 2025 Grammys and marked her first studio record in seven years. In a four-star review, NME wrote that “after going through one of the most devastating celebrity breakups this decade, Shakira has spun her heartbreak into global pop gold”.
