Shania Twain responds to comments about her weight: ‘My body is not shameable’

Shania Twain has responded to comments surrounding her weight, opening up about how her perspective on body image has changed over the years.

Speaking to People in a recent interview, the That Don’t Impress Me Much hitmaker explained that she has learned to ignore negative comments about her appearance as she has grown older.

“My body is not shameable. That courage comes with time and maturity,” she said. “Body shaming is nothing that’s going to affect me.”

However, while reflecting on the changes her body has gone through with age, Shania, 60, admitted that she did not always feel confident in her appearance.

“I go from being this young, stunning figure, beautiful skin, everything’s in the right place (to a) time in my life where I couldn’t look in the mirror because all I could see were imperfections and not wanting to be that curvy thing,” she shared.

In recent years, Shania has learned to prioritise her health as she navigates menopause.

“It is well-being first, always,” the Man! I Feel Like A Woman hitmaker stated. “To becoming an older woman and now looking in the mirror, no problem. I’m like, I just have to get over this because every day that goes by, I’m getting older; the dips and bulges and the sags are just getting more and more prominent.”

Shania then revealed that her new mantra is to “enjoy every day for what it is,” adding that “vanity is not worth the torture”.

The singer has previously been open about her menopause journey, telling The Times that it has been “very good” for her.

“Menopause has been very good for me because I’ve learned that some things you cannot control,” she told the publication at the time.
