Shania Twain has opened up about she and her husband handle any conflict.
The 60-year-old singer believes she and her husband of 15 years, Frederic Thiebaud, are good at getting through hurdles in their relationship because they talk things through.
“He’s really good at reminding both of us that we have to keep communication open,” she said in an interview with People magazine. “He’s the greatest talker, and he’s not inhibited at all with expressing his feelings, which is really wonderful in a man. If you have a man that is really open and wants to keep the communication open, you’re blessed as a woman.”
Twain admitted his keenness to talk is at odds with her own communication style, saying she’d rather “take a walk or be alone with my guitar.”
She added that “Fred wants to talk about it. He wants to talk it through, and he wants to fix it. And that’s the best advice. I mean, he’s not wrong.”
The couple married in 2011. Twain was married to record producer Robert “Mutt” Lange from 1993 until 2008. He allegedly had an affair with Thiébaud’s then-wife, Marie-Anne, who was close friends with Twain. After Twain and Lange separated, she and Thiébaud got together.
She said that the couple had “deep scars in common. We were a big part of each other’s healing,” before telling how she truly believes he’s the love of her life.
“And if I (had) met Fred as a teenager, I do believe that he would have been my lifelong love even from then. It just takes sometimes years to find that person,” she said.
