‘Shawn’ was first announced in August, and was fixed for an October 18 release. Now, however, the singer-songwriter has taken to social media to share that the album will instead be released on November 15.
In a follow-up post, Mendes explained to his fans the reason behind the delay: “My team and i have decided to push the album release date to November 15th. We just need a little bit more time to bring some new inspiration and ideas to life. I love you guys thank you for being so patient, I can’t wait to see you guys at the next few shows.”

It is currently unclear what these “new inspiration and ideas” entail, and whether they will result in new songs, or guest features. You can pre-order or pre-save the record now.
To accompany the announcement of the album in August, Mendes released the single ‘Isn’t That Enough‘, followed by a second song ‘Why Why Why’ a few days later. Mendes wrote and co-produced the album alongside Scott Harris, Mike Sabath (RAYE), Nate Mercereau (Andre 3000) and Eddie Benjamin, with additional songwriting from Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska (Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers).
Speaking about the record, Mendes said: “Music really can be medicine. 2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
“Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you through makes it so much better. I have no idea how I would have made it through the last couple years let alone make an album without you.”
The album delay also comes off the heels of Mendes’ limited run of intimate shows in Woodstock and London, performing ‘Shawn’ in its entirety. The show provided fans with a first look at his new music in the setting where it was created. These performances will continue in cities where Shawn recorded the new album, including Nashville, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
