Sheryl Crow hits out at Trump Administration for staging UFC fight at White House with Michelle Obama smear: “Disgraceful and void of decency”

Sheryl Crow has hit out at the Donald Trump Administration for staging a “disgraceful” UFC fight at the White House, and for the “racist comment” made towards Michelle Obama at the event.

The comments from the singer come after the President and his administration staged UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on Sunday (June 14) – the first professional sporting event in White House history.

At the event, UFC winner Josh Hokit ended a post-match interview by sharing praise for the president and making reference to one of the oldest and most persistent smears directed at the former first lady, saying that “Michelle Obama is a man”.

That wasn’t the only political barb on the night either, with The Guardian reporting that there were some spectators on the night who could be heard shouting “Canada is the 51st state” – referencing Trump’s repeated threat to annex the country.

Following the match, Sheryl Crow took to social media to criticise the event and the offensive comments made against Michelle Obama.

“What happened last night on the lawn of the White House was disgraceful and void of decency,” she wrote on Instagram Stories. “Powerful, rich people filled the lawn to watch a violent sport that ended with a vile and racist comment. All while the average American cannot afford healthcare, gas, and cost of living.”

She continued: “Do not be fooled. This administration is corrupt and does not give a damn about the American people.

“It only cares about making money hand over fist at the expense and in spite of our democracy. If we continue to support this kind of distraction from reality, we are no better than them. Let’s be better, America.”

Crow has used her platform to hit out at the Trump Administration before too. Earlier this year she urged that the President be “impeached and imprisoned” for alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein, and last summer she released a song called ‘The New Normal’, which made reference to the political climate in the US and drew comparisons to the dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell.

Earlier this month, Crow was seen in New Jersey, attending the star studded opening of Bruce Springsteen’s new Center for American Music in West Long Branch. Other famous faces there included Bon Jovi, Public Enemy, Darlene Love, Jackson Browne, Nils Lofgren and Gary Clark Jr.

Earlier this year, she shared a video on social media, showing her Tesla being sold and towed away in protest against Elon Musk – and her home was broken into by an armed intruder shortly after.
