‘Slam Frank’ Launches Kickstarter to Fund Original Cast Recording of 2025’s Most Divisive Musical

In the competitive theatrical landscape of New York City, not every stage production turns out to be a hot ticket. Slam Frank, an off-Broadway musical that checked into Asylum NYC last fall-winter, wasn’t just hot—it was radioactive. A satirical hip-hop musical inspired by a 2022 tweet which questioned whether Holocaust victim Anne Frank, who died in 1945 at the age of 15, ever acknowledged “her white privilege,” Slam Frank was easiest the most divisive, rage-baiting production on or off Broadway in 2025.

“We have people going, ‘This is left-wing propaganda,’ and we have people going, ‘This is right-wing propaganda,’” creator/composer Andrew Fox told Billboard‘s Frank DiGiacomo last month. “I have had people accuse me of making anti-Zionist propaganda. Others have said it’s Zionist propaganda. Other comments I’ve gotten: ‘He’s fascist,’ ‘He’s on the dirtbag left,’ ‘He’s a disillusioned progressive.’” (In other words, people either damn Slam Frank or Stan Slam Frank.)

Though Slam Frank played its last sold-out performance at Asylum NYC on Dec. 28, the ride is far from over. On Tuesday (Jan. 20), its team is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund the musical’s Original Cast Recording. In conjunction with the Kickstarter launch, the Slam Frank team is sharing an exclusive song, “Rewrite My Diary,” featuring original cast member Olivia Bernábe, who plays Anita (Anne), right here.

“Theatrical Cast Recordings are to this moment what Oil Paintings were to the Italian Renaissance,” Fox said. “With authoritarianism eroding Democracies worldwide, the best thing you can do is Resist by donating to our Kickstarter.” Kickstarter supporters will be afforded access to behind-the-scenes content, unreleased tracks and limited-edition rewards.

The cast album will be produced by Fox and Mikhail Pivovarov, with additional production by Ricky Sour. It will feature the original cast of Bernábe, John Anker Bow, Alex Lewis, Anya van Hoogstraten, Austen Horne, Rocky Paterra, Jaz Zepatos and Kris Bramson. The stage production was directed by Sam LaFrage, with composer Fox writing its music and lyrics and Joel Sinensky writing the book.

Last month, Fox promised that Slam Frank—which played to sold-out crowds for months—will return in 2026. “Barring some horrible catastrophe, we will be in a theater or theaters in 2026,” he told Billboard. In the meantime, check out the Kickstarter here and the song above.
