Spandau Ballet to reunite for comeback tour

Spandau Ballet to reunite for comeback tour

Spandau Ballet are gearing up for a comeback.

After years of feuding, court battles and public bust-ups, The Mail on Sunday reports that all members of the original line-up are in talks with agents and a deal is reportedly close.

After Oasis’s major comeback tour last year, which generated more than $540 million (£400 million) in ticket sales, the outlet cites insiders as revealing that Spandau Ballet are set to follow suit.

The reunion will feature the full line-up: guitarist Gary Kemp, bassist Martin Kemp, saxophonist Steve Norman, drummer John Keeble and lead singer Tony Hadley, more than a decade after they last performed together.

A music industry source told the outlet that talks have “gone better than anyone expected”, and it looks like “the reunion is on”, while the announcement of a tour is expected “very soon”.

Spandau Ballet, whose hits include Gold and True, last performed together in 2018, without Hadley, who had quit a year earlier. On X, he revealed the reason for his departure was “due to circumstances beyond my control”.

Hadley was replaced for the tour by Ross William Wild, who quit in 2019 and was later convicted of a series of sex offences. Following Wild’s departure, Martin said the band would not return unless Hadley joined them.

Gary Kemp told NME this year, “Will there be another Spandau Ballet reunion? I hope so.”

The band was formed in London in 1979 and split acrimoniously in 1990. In 1999, Hadley, Norman and Keeble launched a High Court case against songwriter Gary Kemp demanding a share of his songwriting royalties, which they lost.

The Kemp brothers went on to carve out acting careers, most notably playing the eponymous twins in the 1990 gangster film The Krays.
