Nicks praised Swift’s Kamala Harris endorsement and encouraged fans to register to vote
Following Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz via Instagram Tuesday, Stevie Nicks took a similar approach encouraging her fans to register to vote. Although Nicks did not endorse a particular candidate, Nicks did praise her friend Swift’s political message.
“Now is the time to research and choose the candidate that speaks to you and your beliefs,” Nicks shared in an X post. “Only 54 days left until the election. Make sure you are registered to vote! Your vote in this election may be one of the most important things you ever do.”
The post, signed “Childless Dog Lady,” featured Nicks cradling her Chinese crested dog Lily, paying homage to Swift’s Instagram post which was signed “Childless Cat Lady” and featured the popstar swaddling her Ragdoll cat Benjamin Button.
The recreation of Swift’s viral endorsement speaks to Nicks’ enduring friendship with the popstar. In May 2023, Nicks thanked Swift for writing Midnights track “You’re On Your Own, Kid” during an Atlanta show, crediting the song for helping her grieve her Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie.
In addition, Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, opened with a poem written by the rock star and the album’s closing track “Clara Bow” pays tribute to Nicks with the line, “You look like Stevie Nicks/In ’75, the hair and lips/Crowd goes wild at her fingertips/Half moonshine, a full eclipse.” If that wasn’t enough, during an Eras Tour performance in Dublin, Ireland, Swift made a special shout out to Nicks calling the icon, who was in attendance, “a hero of mine” before performing a “Clara Bow” mashup with Red’s “The Lucky One” followed by “You’re on Your Own, Kid.”
Other performers shared their own “Childless Cat Lady” endorsements of Harris and Walz, with Aubrey Plaza sharing an Instagram post of herself and the late Grumpy cat, a recognizable internet meme from the 2010s.
