Suki Waterhouse wanted to “control the narrative” on her new song ‘Model, Actress, Whatever’.
The 32-year-old star’s latest track takes a shot at Hollywood and she explained that it originated from a desire not to limit herself as she has released music following her previous work in the fields of modelling and acting.
Suki told NME: “It’s me taking control of that narrative in some way. I have so much belief in not silencing yourself, not quietening yourself and going in the opposite direction and making it into art.
“I wanted to imbue the video with a lot of humour because, well, it’s funny. I wanted to make a song called ‘Model, Actress, Whatever’ and hear that on the radio or something – ‘Suki Waterhouse, model, actress, whatever’. There’s a release and a freedom in taking the p*** out of yourself a little bit.”
Suki’s album ‘Memoir of a Sparklemuffin’ was released earlier this month and she revealed that she had to rush to complete the record at her Los Angeles home before she welcomed a daughter with her fiance, ‘Twilight’ actor Robert Pattinson, earlier this year.
The ‘My Fun’ artist said: “The beautiful thing about making this record was that I had this very physical deadline – not just one where it’s like, ‘You should turn it in then’, but a very physical one.
“That was something I really leaned into with this project, and not being able to leave my living room for a couple of months was probably the best thing for it.”
Waterhouse detailed how the fact that her life was about to change forever served as inspiration for material on the LP.
The ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ star said: “You’re very inspired by that time limitation and knowing that your world is about to become completely different.
“You’ve got a certain amount of time where you know it’s just going to be you before becoming a mother. All of the anticipation around that all felt really inspiring.”
